Some Tulsa officers were able to help raise the spirits of a young Tulsa boy after he has had to undergo multiple brain surgeries.

Nine-year-old Harley Sommerfeld has hydrocephalus, which means fluid builds up in his brain.

The condition is incurable, and the only way to help is through brain surgery. Around one of every 500 children are affected by the condition.

He’s had brain surgery 10 times.

Sommerfeld absolutely idolizes law enforcement, and he is known to follow an officer who lives down the street.

Tuesday night after their shift, Officer Josh Metcalf and Officer Jason Busby visited Sommerfeld in the hospital after his tenth surgery.

They brought him some toys, tools and other gifts.

His mom said all his doctors say his spirits were so drastically lifted, they think it’s why he was able to come home from the hospital early on Wednesday.

Sommerfeld says he knows his doctors have his back, so he’s not worried anymore about his surgeries.

He says he’s going to be a police officer when he grows up, even though he’ll have to keep having surgeries every time fluid builds up.
