A quick-thinking police officer stopped an alleged drunk driver from plowing through a crowd of over 2,000 people partaking in a food festival.
According to WIVB, Lt. Jason Schiedel stopped Katherine Clare, 59, at a roadblock that was set up to prevent traffic from entering the street festival.
Schiedel determined Clare was intoxicated and told her to turn off her car. But Clare allegedly ignored the officer’s command and instead, tried to drive around the barriers and into the crowd.
The Orchard Park Police Department says Schiedel chased the moving vehicle and climbed through a window to shut off the ignition.
No one at the festival was injured during the incident.
Clare failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for DWI, failure to comply with the order of a police officer, and additional vehicle and traffic violations.
