Hillsborough police are investigating the incident that occurred at the Orange County Republican Party headquarters.

The building was targeted with hate graffiti and a flammable material was thrown through a front window of the headquarters.

“This highly disturbing act goes far beyond vandalizing property; it willfully threatens our community’s safety via fire, and its hateful message undermines decency, respect and integrity in civic participation,” Hillsborough Mayor Tom Stevens said.

The North Carolina GOP will hold a press conference Sunday at 6 p.m. at its Orange County office.

Hillsborough police are still investigating.
