For the second time in less than a year, Murry’s, Inc. is recalling chicken nuggets after the product tested positive for Staphylococcal enterotoxin.
This time, more than 20,000 pounds of Bell & Evans’ gluten-free chicken nuggets have been recalled.
The recalled product has a "best by" date of March 25, 2016, and establishment number
"P-516," according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The contamination was discovered during a routine inspection.
Staphylococcal enterotoxin is a common bacteria that causes gastrointestinal illness. Symptoms including nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps and diarrhea. The illness is usually mild and most people recover within one to three days.
Thoroughly cooking the contaminated product does not make it safe to consume; any product in question should be discarded.
This is the second time in less than a year that Murry's has been the focus of a recall. In October 2014, more than 30,000 pounds of Bell & Evans' gluten-free chicken nuggets were recalled due to Staphylococcal enterotoxin contamination.
