A Georgia mother is accused of repeatedly stabbing her 3-year-old daughter and then telling Clayton County authorities the child was injured during a home invasion, deputies said.
Brittney Jackson called police to the Lake of the Woods apartment complex about 6 a.m. Tuesday to report her daughter’s injuries, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Saturday.
When officers arrived, they found a 3-year-old girl stabbed multiple times in the groin and buttocks.
Jackson, 31, told police her daughter was injured by two men with guns who stormed into the apartment looking for the child’s father, deputies said in the release.
Detectives felt something wasn't right with the woman's story, however, which reportedly conflicted with her earlier 911 call.
Detectives secured arrest warrants for Jackson and waited for her to arrive for an interview with the Division of Family and Children Services, police said, but the woman never showed.
Police determined Jackson was eluding police by staying with family and friends. She was tracked down at a home on Bayberry Drive in southwest Atlanta on Friday evening and arrested without incident, authorities said.
She is charged with one count each of aggravated assault and first-degree child cruelty and remains held at the Clayton County jail without bond, records show.
