Over the past few days, retailers like Walmart have discontinued sales of anything sporting the "Stars and Bars."The move came after last week's deadly shooting at Charleston, South Carolina's Emanuel AME Church. The man who confessed to the killings of nine parishioners, Dylann Roof, posed with the flag prior to the shooting and said he wanted to start a race war.
Now, Warner Brothers is the latest to drop the Confederate battle flag from a product. Toy versions of the iconic orange Dodge Charger with the Confederate flag markings will end production. Yahoo Autos contacted Warner Bros. Consumer products about the General Lee's future.
The studio told the site:
Warner Bros. Consumer Products has one licensee producing die-cast replicas and vehicle model kits featuring the General Lee with the confederate flag on its roof - as seen in the TV series. We have elected to cease the licensing of these product categories.
At the height of "The Dukes of Hazzard's" popularity, the car was featured on everything from shirts to lunchboxes to underwear and even McDonald's Happy Meal toys.
The Vulture reported that shirts will still be able to be purchased, but the flag will not be visible.
Reruns of the show are still broadcast on TVLand and are sold on online streaming sites like Amazon.
The Dukes of Hazzard ran for seven seasons from 1979 through 1985. A feature film starring Johnny Knoxville, Sean William Scott, Willie Nelson and Jessica Simpson was released in 2005.
