Thomas didn't want little Peyton to be shy about using a public park, so she prepared her "mom voice" as Peyton began to eagerly try her new skateboard.
Thomas writes that when one of the youths approached her little girl, she was relieved to see he was giving Peyton some pointers.
The exchange soon blossomed into a full-fledged beginner's skateboard lesson that lasted almost an hour, even though the young man's friends were making fun of him.
Thomas tweeted a public thank-you to the young man titled "Dear teenage boy at the skate park," saying that because of him, Peyton left the park with a sense of pride and confidence she could do anything. Her post has since gone viral, with more than 32,000 re-tweets and 45,000 favorites.
A local newspaper later tracked down the helpful skateboarder. It turns out he is not actually a teen but a 20-year-old. The man, Ryan Carney, is a well-known local advocate for skateboarding.
Carney even works as a coach.
He says he didn't do anything special, he was just "skating it forward."
