A Missouri man is behind bars after authorities said he killed his wife in 2015, then hid the woman's body inside a locked freezer for four years.

According to the Springfield News-Leader, Marshfield resident Larry Allen Dinwiddie confessed Tuesday to killing 56-year-old Cynthia Dinwiddie, whose remains were discovered Monday when storage company managers were cleaning an abandoned unit, Webster County Sheriff Roye Cole told reporters.

Investigators traced the unit to Larry Dinwiddie, then, with help from state troopers, lured him to the facility by claiming that "the freezer quit working and he needed to hurry up and get back here," Cole told the News-Leader.

Deputies arrested Dinwiddie about 2 p.m. Tuesday and brought him to the Webster County Jail, where he is awaiting charges, KOLR-TV reported.

Dinwiddie, who said his wife had abused him, admitted to the slaying, saying he struck her with a hammer before strangling her, Cole told the News-Leader.

Medical examiners plan to conduct an autopsy on the woman Monday, the newspaper reported.
