North Texas authorities believe a man who disappeared from his home in Johnson County in April was eaten by his pack of vicious dogs, according to news reports.

Family members reported they last spoke to Freddy Mack, 57, on April 19 and had not heard from him since, KDFW-TV reported.

Deputies with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office searched Mack's trailer and found nothing and tried to search his property several times over the months but had a hard time because of his 18 aggressive dogs, according to KDFW.

Family and neighbors told police Mack was a reclusive man who rarely left his dogs unattended, the news station reported.

In mid-May, an investigator spotted a bone fragment on the property, and eventually deputies were able to get a search warrant, seize the dogs and conduct a more thorough search. They found more small bone fragments and dog feces containing more bone and pieces of clothing, KDFW reported.

Forensic testing revealed the bone fragments and clothing belonged to Mack.

"During the course of our investigation, it was found that Freddie suffered from serious medical conditions," Sheriff Adam King told the news station

“So, we will never know if the dogs killed Mr. Mack or consumed him after he died from a medical condition. Either way, it is a very gruesome event, and we extend our sympathy to Freddy Mack's family," King said.

Mack’s dogs had to be euthanized because they were just too aggressive.
