A sheriff's deputy was shot and killed Sunday morning by an inmate at a Minnesota hospital.
The victim, 60-year-old Steven Sandberg, was guarding the suspect's room when a struggle broke out. The suspect reportedly grabbed Sandberg's gun and fired several shots.

Officials didn't reveal why Hammond was being treated at the hospital, but they did say hospital staff had asked for a guard in his room because he was under investigation for a domestic violence incident. Sandberg worked for the Aitkin County Sheriff's Department for 24 years.
"I would hope everyone would keep Investigator Sandberg's wife and daughter in their thoughts and prayers in the coming days,"
