The 46th March for Life is scheduled to happen Friday in Washington, D.C., despite the ongoing government shutdown, according to organizers of the event.
The march, which started in 1973 as a small demonstration protesting against abortion and the landmark Supreme Court decisions of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, has grown to be the largest pro-life event, according to march organizers.
President Donald Trump will be among those addressing the march, but he will not be there in person. Instead, Trump will address the crowd via a pre-recorded video, Fox News reported.
Also expected to speak during the march:
- Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mt.).
- Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Il.).
- Rep Chris Smith (R-N.J.).
- State Rep. Katrina Jackson (D-L.A.).
- Ben Shapiro, The Daily Wire editor-in-chief.
- Dr. Alveda King, Civil Rights for the Unborn with Priests for Life director.
- Dr. Kathi Aultman of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
- Ally Cavazos, Princeton Pro-Life president.
- Carl Anderson, Knights of Columbus Supreme Knight.
- Archbishop Joseph Naumann, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Pro-life Activities Committee chairman.
The rally will begin at noon on the National Mall, with the march beginning around 1 p.m. on Constitution Avenue.
The current partial government shutdown will not impact the march, WTOP reported.
"Permits allowing events to take place will be issued for First Amendment demonstrations on the National Mall whose applications were submitted prior to the lapse of appropriations," a National Parks Service spokesman told WTOP.
Later, Vice President Mike Pence will speak at the dinner following the demonstrations, USA Today reported.
