Norman Freeman was walking downtown Saturday night after leaving the Three Rivers Regatta and when he saw a veteran and his wife being attacked by a group of teens, he had to intervene.
Now Freeman, who works as a makeup artist, has two broken knuckles and could miss out on work because of the incident.
“If I can’t pay my bills, it’s a very serious situation,” he told Channel 11.
Freeman jumped into the fray after the veteran’s wife tried to get help for her husband, who was being attacked.
“She kept explaining that her husband just came back from Afghanistan,” Freeman said.
Freeman stepped in to get the attackers away from the couple, which resulted in another fight that broke his hand.
“I couldn’t just walk past and let that go down,” he said. “I had to do something.”
Freeman told Channel 11 he thinks the teens were looking for trouble and found an easy target.
Freeman, who has his broken hand bandaged to protect it, said he plans on filing charges against the attackers with police.
