A Pennsylvania man has been charged with lighting a woman's genital area on fire, police say.
According to the Lancaster Intelligence-Journal, Donald Dale Hackman Jr., of Lititz, abused the victim over several days before lighting her genital area on fire. Hackman then allegedly extinguished the flames and yelled at the victim for screaming and crying.
Hackman was charged with felony arson, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and misdemeanor simple assault. He was arrested is in the Lancaster County prison with bail set at $500,000.
"I've never dealt with injuries like that on any type of assault from a male toward a female victim," Lititz Borough Detective Sgt. John Schofield told the Lancaster Intelligence-Journal "My heart went out to this woman.”
The victim and her son lived with Hackman for about a month and had also been punched in the face and stomach and beaten with a belt, according to police reports published by the paper.
Arrest records indicate the victim suffered second- and third-degree burns to her lower stomach, genital area and inner thighs.
Lancaster Intelligence-Journal reported the victim also told police that Hackman locked her son inside a closet for about 20 minutes for “acting out” during the assault on the woman.
She was admitted to a local hospital where she is expected to recover. The victim's son is being cared for by a family member, Schofield told the newspaper.
