Police in Richmond, Virginia, are investigating threats made against churchgoers on Thursday night.
WWBT is reporting that a man with a gun showed up at a Bible study class at the United Nations Church International and started shouting racial obscenities.
Pastor Orrin Pullings told WWBT that the man said, "You are going to get killed tonight."
The pastor ordered the church's doors locked.
Witnesses told WWBT that the man banged on the window with what was originally thought to be machete, but was later called an unidentified sharp object.
The incident was reported just one night after a deadly shooting at a historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina.
Pullings said "I'm thankful for the Richmond Police Department backing us up tonight," Pullings said. "Nobody worshiping God should have to deal with such an individual like this."
Police said the man, whose name was not released, was taken to an area hospital for observation. There was no word on whether charges would be filed.
