Reza Baluchi's second attempt at running in an inflatable hydro-pod from Florida to Bermuda ended off the coast of Jupiter on Sunday when Baluchi asked the U.S. Coast Guard for help.
Just after 2 a.m. about 7 miles off the coast, Baluchi — who made headlines in 2014 when he first embarked in his hydro-pod from Broward County — asked the Coast Guard to remove him from his pod and take him back to dry land.
Baluchi, an endurance athlete, left from Jupiter in his “ocean bubble,” which features 36 buoyancy balls on each side.
Before his voyage, Baluchi was ordered by the Coast Guard not to make the journey again because his “vessel” failed to meet safety requirements, according to a press release from the Coast Guard.

He set off anyway.
A boat crew followed Baluchi overnight to make sure another vessel didn’t collide with his hydro-pod.
“This was an inherently unsafe voyage attempt that put the lives of Mr. Baluchi and other mariners in danger,” said Capt. Austin Gould, Coast Guard Sector Miami commander, in a press release.
His 2014 attempt to reach Bermuda from Broward cost the Coast Guard more than $140,000 in rescue expenses, the press release says.
The Coast Guard picked him up off the coast of Miami "disoriented and asking for directions to Bermuda," CNN reported in 2014.
Baluchi may face imprisonment or fines for failing to comply with the coast guard’s April 15 order.
