On a day when some may feel unnoticed, a Spokane, Washington, man is trying to make sure they’re not forgotten.
For seven years, Seth Stewart has bought and passed out roses to women who are alone for Valentine's Day, CNN reported.
It all started when Stewart and one of his brothers handed out about two dozen roses to their single friends, and from there, the idea grew and grew and grew, according to CNN.
But not all single women have the same reason they're by themselves on the holiday dedicated to romance. Sure, some don't have a partner in their lives, but Stewart tries to brighten the days of widows and the wives and girlfriends of deployed members of the military in the Spokane area, KHQ reported.
He uses a Facebook page to compile the requests from friends and family members for the free rose and a smile.
And the act of kindness could mean all the difference for some who may be feeling down about spending Valentine’s Day alone.
"Last year, we had one lady, she broke down sobbing, she hugged me for about half a minute. Her husband had passed away in the last year, and she just thought that she was by herself," Stewart told KHQ.
Last year, Stewart and his team started at 8 a.m. and spent all day delivering more than 400 roses, KHQ reported.
This year, he has expanded his efforts, hired drivers and will pass out 550 flowers free to women around Spokane, CNN reported. Some will even have a personal message as to why the woman was granted the gift from those who nominated her.
