Authorities arrested a man after he intentionally slammed a pickup truck into Dallas television station KDFW-TV on Wednesday morning, the news station reported.
The incident was reported just after 6 a.m. local time, according to the Dallas Morning News. The KDFW-TV morning newscast stayed on the air throughout the incident, KXAS reported.
Update 12:10 p.m. EDT: The suspect was identified as Michael Chadwick Fry, 34, according to the Morning News. Police said they found him rambling nonsensically with papers he had strewn around the KDFW-TV building Wednesday morning. He was arrested without incident.
The papers Fry spread out had information about an officer-involved shooting that was reported in another city. Dallas police Maj. Max Geron said earlier that Fry wanted the media to provide more coverage of a 2012 officer-involved shooting that happened in a nearby county.
Update 11 a.m. EDT: Police said a man arrested after slamming a pickup truck into KDFW-TV on Wednesday had mental issues and told authorities that "people were trying to kill me."
Dallas police Maj. Max Geron said the man, who has not been identified, also wanted the media to provide more coverage of a 2012 officer-involved shooting that happened in a nearby county.
Update 10:35 a.m. EDT: Employees were allowed to return to KDFW-TV Wednesday morning after police determined that a suspicious bag left at the scene by the suspect had no explosives on it, according to police.
Authorities do not believe Wednesday's incident was "an attack motivated against the media," according to Dallas police Maj. Max Geron.
Update 10:05 a.m. EDT: Dallas police spokeswoman Debra Webb told the Morning News the suspect accused of ramming a pickup truck into the side of KDFW-TV on Wednesday morning was "obviously in an agitated state."
“Officers said he was rambling and just saying all kinds of nonsense,” Webb told the newspaper.
KDFW-TV employees had earlier said the suspect got out of the pickup after slamming it into the television station’s building Wednesday morning and started ranting.
Update 9:55 a.m. EDT: Police told KDFW-TV the suspect, whose name has not been released, will be charged with criminal mischief.
Update 9:30 a.m. EDT: The suspect, whose name has not been released, got out of his pickup truck ranting about "high treason" after ramming a pickup truck into KDFW-TV, the news station reported.
Photos from the scene showed paper strewn across the truck, the sidewalk and the roadway after the incident. KDFW-TV reported the paper came from several boxes placed by the suspect near a side door outside of the station.
No injuries were reported.
Original report: According to KDFW-TV, a man repeatedly crashed a pickup truck into the side of the station's building before he got out of the truck and started ranting. The bomb squad was called to the scene to investigate a suspicious bag the man left at the scene, the news station reported
On Twitter, KDFW-TV reported that most employees had been evacuated by 8 a.m. but some remained to keep the newscast on the air from a secure location.
