A Jacksonville man doing renovations on his childhood home found the remains of his mother who had been missing since 1993.
Now, the man's father is on trial, accused of killing the woman.
For the first time in court Tuesday, Michael Haim’s family testified as he faces second-degree murder charges.
The couple’s son, Aaron, addressed the jury and gave a powerful testimony.
His father, Michael Haim, is accused of killing his wife Bonnie and burying her body in their backyard in 1993.
When Bonnie first disappeared in 1993, Aaron, who was 3 years old at the time, told a child investigator he witnessed his father hurt his mother.
During his testimony Tuesday, he told the court he found his mother’s body 21 years later.
Aaron reportedly dug up his mother’s skull in the backyard during a home renovation.
Tuesday in court—he re-lived those memories.
“I picked up the coconut object and it ended up being the top portion of her skull,” he said.
Tuesday wasn't the first time Aaron testified in court. When Bonnie first disappeared, 3-year-old Aaron told police, "Daddy shot mommy," but the defense questioned the credibility of a child.
Action News Jax reporter Christy Turner tried to talk to Haim after he left the courtroom Tuesday.
He originally told investigators his wife left after they got into an argument and never came back.
During testimony, family members said that wasn’t like Bonnie – saying it was out of character to leave her son behind.
Haim maintains he was not involved in his wife's death. He pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder.
The medical examiner couldn't determine Bonnie's exact cause of death.
