Having a dog is a lot of responsibility, which parents often remind children before they get a family dog.

Reluctant to let his children get the dog they were asking for, the dad created a "family dog contract."

The man posted the contract, which includes 13 rules to which each family member had to agree before getting a dog, on Reddit.

Some of the rules are standard, like making sure the animal goes to the bathroom in the side yard and keeping its nails clipped so it doesn't scratch the floor.

But some of the rules aren't ones that you might expect.

"Dad never has to pick up dog poop. Ever. The dog’s poop is picked up at least (three times) per week by children to Dad’s satisfaction," the contract says.

The contract also says: "The dog does not receive organic, gourmet or special diet dog food. All parties agree that plain old dog food is fine."

The document was signed by every member of the family.

In the comments where the picture was originally posted, the man updated the situation, saying that the family got a dog two weeks later and all the rules were followed.

"Everyone (including Dad) adores the dog, which has been a fantastic addition to (though not member of) our family," he wrote.
