Police have charged a man in the killing of a teenager. He allegedly posted photos of her body on social media.
Police said Brandon Clark, 21, and Bianca Devins, 17, met online through Instagram two months ago, The New York Times reported.
The relationship evolved into what police said was a "personally intimate" one where the couple met each other's families, the Times reported.
The night Devins was killed she went to a concert with Clark in New York City. It was a 250-mile drive from Utica, New York, where her body was eventually found. Police said they had an argument at the concert, the Times reported.
But online followers said they were not a couple and that Clark stalked Devins, following her to New York City. Police said they have no evidence of the online claims, the Times reported.
Police, however, did use information from users of a social media messaging app called Discord that is used by gamers for text and video chatting. Users alerted police that images of Devins' alleged killing appeared on Instagram, the BBC reported.
The photos were spread on other platforms, the BBC reported.
Police had been searching for Clark thanks to the alerts from social media users, but then he allegedly called the police and made "incriminating statements" and was "alluding to the fact that he was going to harm himself," police said, according to the BBC.
When police found him, Clark started to stab himself in the neck, then laid down on a tarp that had been laid on the ground. Police said they found Devins' body under the tarp, CNN reported.
Emergency surgery was performed on Clark and he is expected to survive, CNN reported.
Clark was charged with second-degree murder, Fox News reported.
