A loyal dog has been waiting patiently at his owner's door for over two weeks after the man was tragically killed during a robbery at a convenience store Feb. 7.

The German shepherd mix has been roaming around this apartment complex in Texas for weeks.

Many thought he was just a lost dog, but he kept settling by the same apartment door.

"He would follow the cars and when he would realize that it was not his owner's car, he would just stand there and look helpless," said Cassandra Eubanks, a resident in the complex.

As the pieces came together, they realized his owner was the clerk killed by robbers at a nearby convenience store.

After building up trust with the dog, Amanda Perez was finally able to win him over.

Perez used her own dog and patience to get the dog to trust her for nearly an hour.

"It just broke my heart to hear that the poor animal lost his owner, his best friend," Perez told KTRK.

It took some more time for Perez to encourage the dog to get in her car, but he finally gave in.

"He was still very shaken-up whenever I touched him," she said.

Perez  said she will foster the dog for a week. The victim's brother said he's open to taking the dog in after that.
