A California woman is suing the city of Carlsbad and several police officers after an encounter two years ago in which she says she was punched by officers, handcuffed and stuffed into a patrol car.
Cindy Hahn told CBS Los Angeles that the assault was unprovoked, and that's why she's suing.
In the interview, Hahn calls July 31, 2013, the "worst day of her life." She said her nightmare began at a birthday party where she asked an officer about a car alarm going off. Hahn said the officer told her to mind her own business and swore at her.
Offended by the officers’ actions, Hahn said she whipped out her cellphone and started recording. She also called 911 to report the officer.
Moments later, she got into her car and tried to leave. Hahn said that within minutes, the officer pulled her over for a seat belt violation, and things got violent.
Hahn was eventually taken into custody and charged with felony resisting arrest and battery on a law enforcement officer. The district attorney dropped the charges this summer.
An eyewitness recorded the violent encounter.
Hahn and her attorney filed the lawsuit on Oct. 2.
