A new bill is being proposed in Michigan that would monitor homeschooled children more closely.
The proposal comes after two children were found deceased in a freezer in Detroit, Michigan by an eviction crew in March. The mother of the children, Mitchelle Blair faces murder charges. Autopsies determined that the children had been dead for at least two years and had been stored in a freezer.
The bill is designed to require parents or guardians to provide their address and names of children to school districts if they are being homeschooled. The children would also need to meet at least twice a year with a person on an approved list. The list could include physicians, social workers, law enforcement or clergy.
