Two people were killed early Friday when a black Mercedes plunged off an overpass and burst into flames at a Miami interstate overpass, according to multiple reports.
Troy Jozef Andrews, 21, the driver of the vehicle, and his passenger died after the 2:25 a.m. crash, the Miami Herald reported. The Mercedes was traveling north on the I-95 entrance to a Park and Ride lot when it tumbled over a concrete barrier on the overpass and fell onto the southbound lane of the interstate, Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Alex Camacho told reporters.
The passenger has not been identified, pending notification of her family, WFOR reported.
Tow truck driver Orlando Cabrera told WFOR he had pulled over to take a nap when he heard what he believed was an explosion. Cabrera saw the car and tried to help the passengers, the television station reported.
“I helped the guy move the one guy to the outside of the car. We got both guys outside the car," Cabrera told the television station. "He moved the one outside to the road and the lady she (couldn't) move because she had broken all her bones."
The southbound lanes of I-95 were closed at the Golden Glades Interchange during the investigation, WPLG reported.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, police said.
