Country singer Kacey Musgraves paid a special tribute to Selena, the late Queen of Tejano, during the opening night of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
During her Monday evening set as the rodeo's opening musical act, Musgraves performed a cover of Selena's "Como La Flor." Selena sang the hit song during her 1995 RodeoHouston performance shortly before her untimely death, KTRK-TV reported.
Both Selena and Musgraves are Texas natives -- Selena was from Corpus Christi, and Musgraves hails from the small town of Golden.
"I love the queen, Selena, just as much as you do!" Musgraves shouted to fans, The Houston Chronicle reported. Rolling Stone wrote that the crowd sang along in "a mix of reverent emotion and enthusiastic glee."
Selena's sister, Suzette Quintanilla, posted a video of the performance to her Instagram page, saying the song made her want to "shed a tear."
Musgraves recently won album of the year for her album, “Golden,” at the 2019 Grammy Awards, along with best country album, best country song and best solo country performance.
The 2019 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo runs through March 17. Other acts set to perform include Cardi B, Tim McGraw and Kings of Leon.
