In a very poor judgement call, actress Julianne Hough wore blackface this year for Halloween.

"You might have trouble picking her out from this photo but she's the woman second from the right there sporting the blackface. Never a good idea I guess." (Via PIX11)

Never a good idea ever. The 25-year-old actress Tweeted a picture and posted an Instagram of her friends dressed as characters from Netflix's "Orange Is the New Black." (Via Fashion & Style)

Hough was dressed as Susan 'Crazy Eyes' Warren. She had the costume, identical knotted hair, and an ID badge around her neck, (Via Netflix)

but it was the dark makeup on her neck and face that was problematic. (Via Us Weekly)

As you can image, after pictures appeared on the Internet, the backlash was prompt.

"What the-? How in the? Are you SERIOUS, Julianne Hough?" (Via Crushable)

"...it's a pretty serious case of poor judgment to put on black makeup, ignoring a very long and ugly history of such behavior from white entertainers." (Via Entertainment Weekly)

As The Huffington Post noted "No one in the group, however, seems to have given Hough a heads up about her offensive getup."

The actress quickly pulled the pictures and Tweeted an apology saying she is a big fan of the character and show. (Via Twitter / @juliannehough)

"It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize." (Via TwitLonger)

Hough wore the controversial costume to a party in Beverly Hills.
