An Italian winery has created a sommelier's ultimate drinking fountain.
Dora Sarchese Vini opened the fontana del vino, a wine fountain, Oct. 9 in Caldari di Ortona, that is accessible seven days a week, 24 hours a day, and it's free.
The winery is along a popular pilgrimage route, the Cammino di San Tommaso, from Rome to Ortona. The project was developed by the winery and a nonprofit group that maintains the route.
The vineyard notes that the fountain is not a place for "louts" and "drunkards" but the thousands of tourists who trek the route are welcomed to fill a glass, the winery said on Facebook.
They got the idea from a similar fountain along a pilgrimage route in Spain, according to The Local.
Venice has a public wine fountain in St. Mark's Square during its annual carnival, according to Decanter.
