The next iOS update for Apple devices promises a smarter Siri, better battery performance and a new feature: multitasking for large screen devices.

Apple announced in its annual Worldwide Developer Conference the release of iOS 9 for iPhones, iPods and iPads. In the announcement, the most notable update was Siri's improved ability to search through more apps and offer more intuitive, context-aware results for users. Siri will also be 40 percent faster.

Some other notable features will be Siri's ability to detect when you are traveling and automatically deliver traffic information based on your calendar.

For iPad users, Apple has added multitasking abilities so users can have a split screen of two apps at the same time. The feature is called Split View.

Apple is also promising better battery life with iOS 9. The update is engineered to use less battery, with reportedly an extra hour of use on your iPhone as compared to iOS 8.

Finally, the iOS 9 update will reportedly use less space to update, so users shouldn't have to delete photos and videos to install the newest operating system.

The release of iOS 9 is expected in the fall.
