South Carolina and federal police are widening their investigation into the suspected Charleston church shooter.
Investigators said they are now looking into the people with whom Dylann Roof associated with before the shooting.
Sources close to the investigation told news partners at the Herald in Rock Hill that it's possible that Roof's friends knew about his alleged plans to shoot and kill people at Emanuel AME Church.

Investigators started looking into Roof's acquaintances after reviewing his cellphone and computer records, trying to find out what they knew and when, the Herald reported.
Channel 9 reported last month that one of Roof's friends said Roof had planned the attack for six months.
Prosecutors are trying to decide what, if any, charges his acquaintances might face.
They could be charged with a felony if police believe they knew about the crime and did not report it to police. Other charges could be lying to a federal law enforcement officer.
Prosecutors are also still trying to decide whether Roof will face one trial. He could face two trials, a state and a federal one, or they could be combined.
Roof currently faces nine state murder charges. Federal charges have not yet been filed.
Roof has been assigned two public defenders.
