Police in Alabama arrested a woman Friday after a passerby spotted her 7-month-old son alone outside a Waffle House in Mobile, according to multiple reports.

The infant was found around 3:30 a.m. by a man who was walking near the restaurant on the 1500 block of Government Street, AL.com reported.

Mobile Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Steven Millhouse told WALA-TV that the man took the child into Waffle House, where he was able to call 911. The news station reported that a subsequent police investigation led authorities to the infant's mother, who was found about a mile away from Waffle House, in the 500 block of Dauphin Island Parkway.

The mother, who was identified as 23-year-old Myeisha Walker, was "naked and appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance," DuBose told WALA-TV in a statement. She was arrested on one count of endangering the welfare of a child, according to records from the Mobile County Sheriff's Office

The baby was taken to a hospital for a checkup after he was found, WPMI-TV reported. Officials with the state Department of Human Resources were also notified of the incident.

Authorities continue to investigate.
