Alyssa Ramirez, 18, was just a few miles from her home when her car stalled, according to WOAI-TV. She called 911 and her father, but by the time he arrived, the car had been swept away.
"Every time you walked by her, she was smiling, lightened up everybody's mood," classmate Shay Agbert told WOAI.
Ramirez's aunt, Roberta, said her niece was "fun-loving, caring" and had strong faith.
Her parents "rest assured that she was a very strong believer and she has her place in heaven, and they'll meet her again soon," Roberta Ramirez told WOAI.
