Score one for romance and respect.
A couple had been dating for seven years and it was time to pop the question.
But Tyler Shelton wanted to do it the right way, asking permission before making his girlfriend his fiancé.
Shelton wasn't able to ask Haylee Rose's father for the OK. He passed away last year, but as MTV found out, he figured out a way to get the much-needed yes before he got down on one knee.
Shelton asked Rose's siblings, first calling her brother, then sister, who both gave their blessings.
He also composed a letter to her dad, if he could talk to him, promising to love her unconditionally and to "make you proud to call me your son."
On a trip to Rome, he got down on one knee and asked one last person, the one whose answer meant the most, THE question.
She quickly said yes.
The couple has known each other since middle school.
