When Vice President-elect Mike Pence took his seat at the Richard Rodgers Theater on Friday night, he was met with a chorus of boos and some cheers from the crowd awaiting “Hamilton.”
At the end of the show, actor Brandon Dixon read a note from the cast to Vice President-elect Pence.
“We, sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our families, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our unalienable rights, sir,” Dixon said to Pence as he left.
“We are the diverse America that are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us,” Dixon said. “We truly hope that our show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us—all of us.”
President-elect Donald Trump tweeted a message Saturday to the cast and crew of "Hamilton:"
"Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of 'Hamilton,' cameras blazing," Trump tweeted. "This should not happen."
It caused Dixon to respond.
"Conversation is not harassment sir," Dixon tweeted. "And I appreciate (Pence) for stopping to listen."
