A group of Confederate flag supporters braved the Tulsa heat on Saturday to show what the flag means to them.
Organizer Allen Branch tells KRMG the group gathered near city hall because they hoped to maybe change some minds about the flag's history.
"We're trying to promote freedom, liberty and independence," Branch said, "We don't promote racism or hatred or anything like that."
The flag has been criticized quite a bit lately, following the Charleston church shootings last month.
Still, flag supporter Arlene Barnum said the flag doesn't represent hatred, but instead celebrates ancestors who died defending it during the Civil War.
Branch agrees. He said the flag is about history.
"People are trying to take it down and change the history of the South," Branch said. "The history of the South can't be changed. It's who we are."
The group wants to have more rallies in the future.
