A local man is getting quite the birthday wish from strangers around the world.
Alfred Birch, 97, was in the hospital for several days at the beginning of March. His family didn't think he was going to make it to see his 98th birthday on March 28.
"He truly means the world to our family," said his granddaughter, Julia Griswell from Manchester-by-the-Sea.
To lift his spirits, Julia posted a photo of Alfred on her Facebook page, asking people to share the post. In the photo, her grandfather is holding a sign that reads, "My daughter does not think I can get 98 likes for being 98 years old. Can we prover her wrong? 1 like = respect!!"
Fortunately, Alfred pulled through and is now home and doing much better, counting down the days until he turns 98.
So far, the photo has already been shared more than 6,000 times. Alfred is getting hundreds of birthday wishes from people all over the world.
