Tom Hanks will receive a lifetime honor at the 2020 Golden Globes.
People reported the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Tuesday that the actor will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
"The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is proud to bestow the 2020 Cecil B. DeMille Award to Tom Hanks," Lorenzo Soria, HFPA president, said in a statement, ETOnline reported. "For more than three decades, he's captivated audiences with rich and playful characters that we've grown to love and admire. As compelling as he is on the silver screen, he's equally so behind the camera as a writer, producer and director."
Hanks, 63, broke out on the scene with his role in "Big" and went on to star in "Saving Private Ryan" and "Cast Away," "Forrest Gump" and "Philadelphia," the latter two of which earned him back-to-back Oscars in 1993 and 1994. He's won eight Golden Globes in his career so far.
The honor puts Hanks, 63, in good company. Robert De Niro, Meryl Streep, Denzel Washington, Martin Scorsese, Barbra Streisand and Oprah Winfrey have all previously received the award, which is chosen by the HFPA board of directors. It recognizes those who have made a lasting impact on the world of film, Variety reported.
The 77th Annual Golden Globes will air live coast-to-coast Jan. 5 on NBC.
