A second attempt by George Zimmerman to sell the 9mm gun used in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin has garnered multiple bids -- although a majority of them appeared to be fake.

By 2:30 a.m., the listing on UnitedGunGroup.com had gained the attention of 25 bidders. Zimmerman listed the Kel-Tec PF-9 pistol with a starting bid of $5,000.

The highest bid by 2:30 a.m. was $1.6 million and came from someone with the username “Donald Trump.” The previous high, which also topped $1 million, came from someone with the username “Bernard Sanders.”

Zimmerman was acquitted in July 2013 of second-degree murder and manslaughter in the 2012 shooting death of Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old. The teen's death sparked protests nationwide.

On Thursday night, United Gun Group put out a statement on Twitter that said the site would not allow the listing.

“As an organization, we stand by the rule of law and, while no laws have been broken, we do not feel like it is in the best interest of the organization to continue to host this sale on our platform,” the statement said. “Our mission is to esteem the 2nd amendment and provide a safe and secure platform for firearms enthusiasts and law-abiding citizens; our association with Mr. Zimmerman does not help us achieve that objective.”

Shortly after posting the statement, United Gun Group deleted the tweet. It was not clear whether the listing would be pulled.

Zimmerman attempted to sell the pistol on GunBroker.com in an ad posted late Wednesday night. The site pulled the listing Thursday morning.

“Our site rules state that we reserve the right to reject listings at our sole discretion, and have done so with the Zimmerman listing,” representatives for the site said in a statement. “We want no part in the listing on our web site or in any of the publicity it is receiving.”
