A Florida firefighter is facing charges after police said he left his nearly 2-year-old son in a hot car Friday.

Now, a GoFundMe page set up asking for donations for the Tampa-area man has been taken down.

Troy Whitaker, 41, of Palm Harbor, faces an aggravated manslaughter charge in the death of 23-month-old Lawson.

Whitaker put his 5-year-old daughter, Addison, and Lawson into his 2011 Chevrolet pickup truck at about 7:50 a.m. Friday, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said in a release.

He drove both children to Addison's school, where he dropped her off, investigators said.

Whitaker was scheduled to drop Lawson off at daycare but instead drove home, deputies said.

He arrived home at about 8:30 a.m. and left the child in the truck until 3:30 p.m., when he drove the vehicle to the store, still not realizing the infant was strapped into his carseat, the PCSO release said.

When he got home from the store at about 4:30 p.m., he realized Lawson was inside the truck, called 911 and performed CPR on the child, investigators said.

Lawson was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital where he was pronounced dead, the sheriff's office said.

Whitaker told investigators that he thought he'd dropped off the child at daycare that morning, the release said.

He was identified by the PCSO as a Hillsborough County fireman.

The GoFundMe fundraiser had raised more than $6,500 for Whitaker's legal fees before it was removed. GoFundMe and the man who launched the page did not respond to the The Associated Press.

Whitaker was released on $50,000 bail Sunday, The AP reported.
