The NFL Players Association has released the full letter written on behalf of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady appealing his punishment over deflated footballs.
Brady filed the appeal on Thursday. The three-page letter called Brady's four-game suspension "grossly inconsistent with the League's prior disciplinary treatment of similar alleged conduct," and noted that "no player in the history of the NFL has ever
received anything approaching this level of discipline for similar behavior."
The letter noted that Brady's suspension is based solely on the Wells Report, which Brady and the NFLPA's lawyers said contained"insufficient evidence" and was "wrought with unsupported speculation." The Patriots have also contested the 243-page report.
The appeal letter also contested the fact that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell appointed himself the arbitrator in the case. League officials said Thursday night that Goodell chose to preside over the appeal as allowed under the current collective bargaining agreement.
