A Florida woman was arrested Wednesday after officials said she was seen trying to drown a dog in the ocean but was stopped by witnesses.
Marilynne Jones, 70, was at the Lighthouse Point Park at Ponce Inlet in Daytona Beach on Wednesday when witnesses said they saw her pulling on a cocker spaniel as it was trying to get out of the ocean, according to WFTV. Officials said the dog was unconscious when witnesses grabbed it out of the water.
"I observed the lady with a dog on a leash in the water and the dog was trying to get out of the water and she kept pulling it back into the water,” witness Edvaldo Silveria said.
Witnesses performed CPR on the dog and it regained consciousness. The dog, whose name is Gracie, was taken to a veterinarian, where she is still being held. Investigators said the dog is alive and improving.
Officials said Jones did not appear "concerned or worried about her dog." She was arrested and charged with felony cruelty to animals.
