A Florida man cheated death when he fell off a cliff while trying to take a picturesque photo in California Wednesday.

According to a statement from the Marin County Fire Department, the man tried to climb over a fence to get a good photo, and then slipped but fell about 75 feet down a cliff. He was at a popular tourist spot near the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Officials said the man was hanging onto the wrist of an unidentified rescuer until first responders arrived. He was about 300 feet above the San Francisco Bay, according to the Fire Department.

“He was extremely lucky,” said Marin County Fire Battalion Chief Jeremey Pierce in a statement. “He could have easily fallen all the way to the water.”

The two men suffered no injuries. A Fire Department spokesman said the unidentified rescuer is about 20 years old and from Russia.
