Gary O’Brien, a family friend, was on a nearby boat and jumped in after he heard the Leesburg couple yelling for help.

The News-Journal reported O’Brien was able to get Sara Diggs to safety, but was unable to reach Norman Diggs, whose body was found around 7:30 p.m. or five hours after the incident occurred. The couple and three children were travelling by boat from Silver Glen to Astor when the tragedy occurred, the News-Journal added.
