With the Supreme Court announcing last Friday that they were legalizing gay marriage in all 50 states, a lot of people had an opinion on the matter. One Cape Coral man decided to make a joke about the entire ordeal and ended up out of a job for it.

According to NBC-2, Ryan Uhler was inspired by the Supreme Court ruling to make a joke about marrying his dog on his Facebook wall. While he said that it was just an innocent gag, his employer, Grace Advisory Group, didn't think so and decided to terminate Uhler.

Uhler told NBC-2 that they took the joke out of context and that he didn’t mean anything by it. He said that he likes to go on Facebook and “stir the pot” sometimes in “either direction.”

Scot Goldberg, a trial lawyer, told NBC-2 that Grace Advisory Group has the right to terminate Uhler, even though he thought that decision was a little harsh. Goldberg added that the state of Florida is an “at will” state, which allows employers to fire employees without giving cause.

"I think going to the point where they're firing someone is a little bit over the line. I think they (legally) have the ability to do that,” Goldberg said.

Uhler doesn’t seem to regret the joke as he stated again that he would marry his dog in the interview with NBC-2.
