Jeremy Spencer, 46, who left the Las Vegas band late last year after a back surgery, shared the news in an Instagram post Sunday.

"I was recently sworn in as a Reserve Police Officer of the Rockport, Indiana Police Department by city Mayor Gay Ann Harney," wrote the Indiana native. "I'm still a resident of Las Vegas, NV, but It's an honor to be able to come back to this area when I can and serve the community as a reserve police officer and help out my brothers."

According to WFIE-TV, Spencer, who had been with Five Finger Death Punch since 2005, "currently splits his time between Rockport and Las Vegas."

Spencer told the news station that he will continue working on music while he serves in the part-time position.

"Just because I'm no longer in the band didn't mean I retired," he told WFIE.
