Prince fans, rejoice!
In honor of the 40th anniversary of his self-titled second album, the late singer’s estate released a previously unheard acoustic version of the Grammy-winning “I Feel For You” on Friday.
According to NPR, the icon's estate dropped the acoustic demo of the 1979 song as a surprise release via streaming services and as the A-side of a 7" single.
Only 20 years old at the time, Prince was preparing for his solo debut at the Capri Theater in North Minneapolis when the track was recorded – on cassette – in the winter of 1978-79, his estate tweeted.
Despite its Oct. 19, 1979 release, "I Feel For You" did not become a top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 charts until Chaka Khan performed a cover of it on her 1984 solo album, USA Today reported.
The surprise release comes more than three years after Prince’s death from an accidental opioid overdose in Minneapolis at the age of 57.
