Marc and Meyers were both struck by 42-year-old Carlos Torres, who lost control and swerved to the shoulder of the road, because another car in front of him suddenly applied the brakes, state troopers said.

Marc died at Orlando Regional Medical Center.

His family said he was taking his wife to work and she saw the whole incident.

“People drive by, but he stopped. He pulled over, he ran out and he tried to help someone,” said Marc’s nephew Derby Phicil. “He tried to save someone else’s life and in the process he lost his.”

Marc’s home was lined with cars as dozens of family members came to console his wife and seven daughters.

“They can’t even talk right now. Everybody’s just crying,” Phicil said.

His family said the way Marc died is the way he lived.

“I mean, that’s just the type of person he was. He always gave more than he could and he always went out of his way to help people. He died a hero’s death,” Phicil said.

Meyers suffered serious injuries and Glaude was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers have not said if they plan to charge the driver of the SUV that killed Marc.
