Day after the Los Angeles County coroner said a cause of death has been deferred following an autopsy, the family of Disney star Cameron Boyce believes a seizure disorder led to his death.
In a statement to E! News, Boyce's family confirmed he has epilepsy.
"Cameron's tragic passing was due to a seizure as a result of an ongoing medical condition, and that condition was epilepsy," a family spokesperson said. “We are still trying to navigate our way through this extremely heart-wrenching time, and continue to ask for privacy so that the family, and all who knew and loved him can grieve his loss and make arrangements for his funeral—which in and of itself, is agonizing."
A number of tributes have poured in for Boyce since his death at age 20 on July 6. His former Disney Channel co-stars on the series "Jessie" and the TV movie franchise "The Descendants" have made public posts mourning his loss, including Skai Jackson, Kevin Chamberlin, Peyton List and Dove Cameron.
Other celebrities, including The Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Robert Iger, Boyce's "Grown Ups" co-stars Adam Sandler and Salma Hayek, also posted about his death. Former first lady Michelle Obama said the time she spent with Boyce at The White House, on set and on a service project showed her he had "an incredible heart."
Details on Boyce's funeral have not been publicly announced.
