Facebook has begun rolling out personalized year in review videos for users, but it's video reflecting on 2016 across the world is more somber than celebratory.
The Verge reported that Facebook uploaded the video Thursday.
"Today, we remember what was on our minds in 2016 and the moments we shared together," the post said.
The video, which is about two-and-a-half minutes, reflects on the year with celebratory fireworks Jan. 1 in Hong Kong and historic wins at the Rio Olympics, but quickly turns somber when looking at Black Lives Matter protests in response to police violence, and the loss of entertainment icons like Muhammad Ali, David Bowie and Prince. Changes in world leadership also dominated the video, including Brexit, the United States presidential election and the Philippine presidential election.
In a post about the 2016 recap on the Facebook Newsroom, Facebook data analyst Sheida Neman shared a list of the "most talked about global topics." The ranking was determined by the frequency a topic was mentioned on Facebook from Jan. 1 to Nov. 27.
