A 28-year-old man wanted for questioning in connection with a pair of explosions over the weekend in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood and a New Jersey shore town has been apprehended, the FBI confirmed on Monday.
Authorities said Ahmad Khan Rahami was arrested after a police-involved shooting in Linden, New Jersey. He had surgery Monday afternoon after suffering a gunshot wound in the confrontation. At least two police officers were also injured.
According to The Associated Press, Rahami has been charged with five counts of attempted murder of police. Bail was set at $5.2 million.
Meanwhile, National Public Radio reported Monday night that investigators found a note in a plastic bag covering one of the intended explosive devices, "a failed pressure cooker bomb." The note mentioned previous terrorist events, "including the Boston Marathon attack."
Earlier Monday, New York police identified Rahami as a person of interest in connection with a blast that injured 29 people in Chelsea on Saturday night. New Jersey State Police later confirmed Rahami was also linked to a separate explosion reported Saturday morning in Seaside Park, New Jersey. No one was injured in the Seaside Park blast.
