Two Michigan teens are lucky to be alive after a crash cut the car they were riding in half.

Michigan State Police said that the female passenger, 18, was still pinned in the wreckage, but the male driver, 18, ran from the scene, Michigan Live reported.

He was found after about 40 minutes of searching and was arrested, charged with drunken driving, Michigan Live reported.

Doctors told police that if he had not been found, he would have died due to the injuries from the crash.

He is listed in critical condition. The female was stable, but doctors said that some of her injuries would be permanent.

The pair had been driving when their car left the road, hitting a utility pole. The crash sliced the car in half, Michigan Live reported.
